Cole has studied acting since high school, receiving two BAs from the University of Oregon (in Broadcasting and Theatre Arts) and an MFA in Acting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has worked in repertory theatre companies like American Player's Theatre in Spring Green, WI and The Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival in Platteville, WI. At present he is a graphic designer and contributing writer to Boxoffice Magazine. Cole is also a long-time member of ART and a former Board vice president. He has written and adapted severnl ART plays including Windshield Chiaroscuro, When the World Screamed, and The Poison Belt.
